Ukraine horror as at least 41 killed in strike on Poltava | World | News

A devastating Russian attack launched on September 3 on the eastern Ukrainian city of Poltava has killed at least 41 people and injured more than 180 Ukrainians, the country’s president said.

Initial reports claimed Russia launched two ballistic missiles against the city, hitting an educational institution and a neighbouring medical facility.

The educational institute is belived to be a military training centre, according to reports circulatng on socail media channels.

Initial reports suggested the recruits were hit on the parade ground and in a canteen. Images from the location show huge damage consistent with the impact of ballistic missiles.

The pro-war Russian channel Rybar says that “as a result of the attack, valuable communications and electronic warfare specialists were eliminated”.

It says these specialists are difficult to replace quickly as they require lengthy training.

President Zelensky offered his sincere condolences to the families of the victims, as he confirmed the missile srtike

In a statement, he said: “According to available information, two ballistic missiles hit the area.

“They targeted an educational institution and a nearby hospital, partially destroying one of the telecommunications institute’s buildings.

“People were trapped under the rubble. Many people were rescued, but more than 180 were injured. Unfortunately, there are many casualties.

“As of now, we know that 41 people were killed. My deepest condolences to all of their relatives and loved ones.”
