First Majorca now Ibiza as Spanish island mobbed by tourists on £1,800 holidays | World | News

Tourists are heading to Ibiza in their droves despite the soaring costs of holidays on the island.

Ibiza is a popular destination with many traveling there to revel in the music scene and renowned nightlife.

While the rising costs are not doing much to deter tourists from Ibiza, new data shows that it is the biggest negative for those who go there.

The tourism barometer compiled by Anàlisi Turístic Eivissa (ATEIF,) found that 47% of the 6,190 tourists surveyed said that high prices were the thing they were most concerned about.

The poll was carried out between May 1 and October 31 last year.

An average week in Ibiza reportedly sets visitors back €1,662, or roughly €196 a day.

This puts Ibiza up there with the most expensive places to visit in Spain.

ATEIF found that the region with the highest average expenditure is Sant Joan de Labritja, a village in Ibiza(€1,819).

This was followed by Sant Josep with €1,817, Santa Eulària with €1,706, Vila with €1,613 and, in last place, Sant Antoni with €1,499.

But the survey still found that 45 percent of visitors said they would come to Ibiza again.

Eduardo Manero, president of ATEIF, said: “It is surprising and satisfactory the power of attraction that Ibiza has.”

He added that “we should be proud, but we must take care of the island and our resources”.

Ibiza, like many other parts of Spain, is crowded with tourists in the summer months. Many locals across Spain have voiced their anger with the congestion in peak months.

ATEIF found that 18 percent of those surveyed did not like “excess behaviour among tourists” while 16 percent said overcrowding was their biggest gripe.

When it came to positives, most said the coves and beaches were the best part of Ibiza (34 percent).

A strong 31 percent said the atmosphere, while 27 percent said the nature.

Mr Manero added: “The natural resources attract tourists. We are a paradise two hours away from any European city,”
